Deep State 02:23
I used to walk on the water Now I'm drowning in the deep state. I used to walk on the water Now I'm drowning in the deep state. Throw me a line Give me some hope Because the rising tide's Set to take my boat. Can't take the river Can't take the bay There's no safe harbor Anywhere anyway. I used to walk on the water I used to walk on the water I used to walk on the water Now I'm sinking in with no trace. We're all gonna need Some new places to stay Because the higher ground Went and moved away. Take four steps back Another five down I never lost a trouble That can't be found. I used to walk on the water I used to walk on the water I used to walk on the water Now I'm drowning in the deep state.

Void Copy 03:26
Somewhere in between the pictures in the fashion magazines All those eager little children are all waiting on the screen Waiting for their meme waiting for their cue Pimped out for consumption pouting for you. Don't confuse me untruth Don't consume me with abuse I got the pictures to release me I got your streaming, you can't see me I can live with that You can live on your back I can pay for chat Just click to talk back. Hidden underneath the backpage where the traffic has a screen All those trashy little children In their tight tight jeans Lurking movers and shakers buying all their paper Eyeballs for the runway contracts for the sex slave. Don't confuse me untruth Don't consume me with abuse I got the pictures to release me I got your streaming, you can't see me I can live with that You can live on your back I can pay for chat Just click to talk back. I see words in every picture in the space between the lines In the voids between the pixels Where the structure goes to hide I can't touch it but I feel I can see it's so surreal Move the needle 'til it's off it Mark it all void copy. Don't confuse me untruth Don't consume me with abuse I got the pictures to release me I got your streaming, you can't see me I can live with that You can live on your back I can pay for chat Just click to talk back.

Creeps 02:42
After all the models have been paid After we've played all the records and the radio and TV just both quit Spin a round in the gun, let's have a little fun. The boys are creeping The boys are creeping The boys are creeping downstairs again Turn down the lights, slip on some spikes Tripping out on your thighs, Oooo those red lips honey We've not the same boys that came in before. The boys are creeping The boys are creeping The boys are creeping in your bed again Down in the bunker, shooting at the moon Trawling on the floor, breaking down doors Putting on their black capes, saying all their hate eights. The boys are creeping The boys are creeping The boys are creeping from the swamp again They're all predators Preying for the grand old party They're all scavengers Praying for a chance to be naughty The boys are creeping The boys are creeping The boys are creeping downstairs again Creeping in your bed again Creeping from the swamp again They're all creeps.

Thoughts

Brian Wyrd: The idea behind this EP was to release a recording closer to our live duo shows. We discovered performing as a
duo offered us greater flexibility in our live shows than performing as a band did. At first we thought we would be doing only
acoustic treatments of the songs but very soon it got loud.
Peter Wyrd: We'd been playing all sorts of venues as a duo lately, including a pop-up on a New Haven street corner, and the
tunes seem to work pretty well. Both of us love the full band too, but from the beginning it's been a “come meet me here with
megaphone” kind of thing. “What if” figures a lot into our conversation.
Brian Wyrd:"Deep State" is the only acoustic song on the EP. Peter's lyrics set against Brian's 1964 Gibson J-50 guitar with
some very close harmonies.
Peter Wyrd: I live in Jersey, and the pain of Hurricane Sandy is still being felt five years later. That shouldn't surprise anyone
– it took seven years for Katrina's dispossessed to get back, and even then, many never returned. But it' should be
completely unacceptable for restoration to play out like that. At the same time, we also need to acknowledge the
vulnerabilities created by wetlands destruction, unchecked construction and development, and the certain peril present in
climate change. That's where “Deep State” come from.
Brian Wyrd: "Void Copy" is a complete makeover of a song originally started in the mid 70's. The idea for the guitar part is
Bowie meets The Clash with over the top distortion from my 1959 TV Model Gibson.
Peter Wyrd: There are still some of B's lyrics from '75 in “Void Copy.” I shifted it a bit to take in online porno and human traffic
in sex slaves - from a “consumer's” point-of-view. In live performance, I smash the keyboard...
Brian Wyrd: "Creeps" is also a complete makeover of a song originally started in the mid 70's. The guitar part to this one is
closer to a Steve Jones Sex Pistols treatment with a nod to Johnny Thunders in the outro lead recorded on that 1959 TV
Model Gibson.
Peter Wyrd: Yeah, the beginning of “Creeps” actually predates “Void Copy.” It's pretty funny to me that what began as a Lou
Reed/ David Bowie homage now has this Pistols/Thunders overlay. The rewrite is partly a reaction to some of those strange alt-right characters like Milo Y...

about

The Wyrd Brothers New Haven, Connecticut

In this age of overproduced shiny pop confections, "New York's Calling," is a bitter, yet necessary pill to swallow, and a raw and ragged testimony to the power of real rock and roll.
